Paul Frank Venteicher 1937-2010

Paul Venteicher, 73, of Carroll, died Saturday, Sept. 18, 2010, at Sunnybrook of Carroll Assisted Living.

Mass of the Christian burial will be celebrated at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 22, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Carroll. The celebrant will be Father Timothy Johnson.  Lector will be Daryl Steinkamp. Gift bearers will be Paul’s grandchildren. Eucharistic ministers will be Donna Riesberg and Ken and Maria Shibata. 

Honorary casket bearers are Arlo Bueltel, Bernard Janning, Elmer Kruse, Jim Masching, Gerald Wiederien, Ken Shibata, Bob Woodhouse, Larry Carlson, Joe Greteman, and Ervin Pauley.

Casket bearers will be Brian Becker, Paul Becker, Jeff Steinkamp, Steve Steinkamp, Craig Steinkamp, Tom Steinkamp, Chad Steinkamp, and Todd Steinkamp.

Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery at Carroll.

Friends may call at Holy Spirit Church after 2:30 p.m. Tuesday. There will be a rosary prayed at 3 p.m. by the Carroll Knights of Columbus, followed by a Christian wake service by the parish at 6 p.m. Visitation will resume at the church on Wednesday at noon until time of the funeral Mass. Sharp Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established at Commercial Savings Bank, and memorials may be left at the church in Paul’s name.

Paul was born on April 18, 1937, at Lake City, a son of Henry and Boneta (Hermsen) Venteicher. He attended SS. Peter and Paul Grade School and Carroll High School, graduating with the Class of 1955. 

Paul married Verla Steinkamp on May 6, 1958 at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church at Carroll. For his entire life Paul farmed east of Carroll and also worked various other jobs when he wasn’t tending to his farm operation. In retirement Paul still stayed active helping his boys with the crops in the spring and fall of the year.  He adored his garden and shared the fruits of his labors with his family and friends.

Paul enjoyed the Iowa State Cyclones, watching football, traveling, trips to the casino, exercising at the Carroll Rec Center, and especially the time he spent with his family.  He was a member of Holy Spirit Parish, Carroll Knights of Columbus, and the Carroll County Farm Bureau.

Survivors include his wife Verla Venteicher of Carroll; his children: Lynn Venteicher of Carroll, Dean Venteicher and his wife Twila of Carroll, Kurt Venteicher and his wife Ami of Bridgewater, and Dana Lauritsen and her husband Daren of Exira; seven grandchildren; one brother, Darrell Venteicher of Carroll; brother-in-law, Frank Becker of Bettendorf; brothers and sisters-in-law: Daryl Steinkamp and his wife Jean of Le Mars, Wayne Steinkamp and his wife Joyce of Clive, and Connie Steinkamp of Carroll, as well as many extended relatives.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Gloria Jean Becker; a brother, Donald Venteicher; sister-in-law, JoAnn Venteicher; uncle, Vic Hermsen; mother and father-in-law, Henry and Eleanora Steinkamp, brother-in-law, Glenn Steinkamp and sister-in-law, Mary Pat Steinkamp.
